From December 2002 to January 2007, the FDA received 30 reports of nephrolithiasis in HIV-infected patients who received atazanavir. Two of these cases have been detailed in the literature (AIDS 2006; 20:2131 and N Engl J Med 2006; 355:2158). Many of the other reports to the FDA did not include full medical histories, but the available information indicated that most patients were receiving boosted atazanavir, and tenofovir was a common component of therapy. Duration of atazanavir treatment ranged from 5 weeks to 6 years. Atazanavir was found in various concentrations in 12 of 14 stones submitted for analysis.
