The International AIDS Society (IAS)–USA has just released updated guidelines regarding the use of antiretroviral drug resistance testing in HIV-infected patients. This update is the first since 2003 and is quite timely, given the number of new drugs that have been approved for use in resource-rich countries, the increasing availability of antiretroviral therapy (ART) worldwide, and the recent recommendation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for more-widespread use of resistance testing (AIDS Clin Care Dec 10 2007).
