On July 8, 2008, the U.S. Public Health Service released updated guidelines for the use of antiretroviral agents in HIV-infected pregnant women and in infants. The major changes are that:
Nelfinavir can once again be prescribed to pregnant women as appropriate. (The drug was found to contain low levels of ethyl methanesulfonate [EMS] last fall but now meets the final EMS limits established by the FDA.)
Detailed tables are now provided regarding appropriate antiretroviral doses for both mothers and infants.
