The fusion inhibitor enfuvirtide is among the more recent options to include in a salvage regimen for HIV-positive patients who have resistance to multiple antiretroviral drugs. Although data on virologic suppression with enfuvirtide are promising, clinical benefits are less clear, particularly in the context of reintroducing (i.e., recycling) the drug to patients who have previously experienced virologic failure on an enfuvirtide-containing regimen.
