In a previous meta-analysis, many non–AIDS-related types of cancer were found to be more common in HIV-infected people than in the general population (JW AIDS Clin Care Jul 23 2007). Now, these results have been confirmed in a larger meta-analysis.
The analysis included 18 studies, mostly from Europe and the U.S., conducted between 1980 and 2007. Nearly 5000 cases of non–AIDS-related cancer were analyzed among HIV-infected individuals; the most frequent malignancies were lung cancer (847), Hodgkin lymphoma (643), and anal cancer (254).
