Potent combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) has greatly diminished the risk for most AIDS-related opportunistic infections (OIs), including Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP). However, the recommendations for primary and secondary PCP prophylaxis rely heavily on studies pre-dating the current HIV treatment era.
