In 2008, the National Quality Forum (NQF) endorsed 13 measures for evaluating the quality of care provided to HIV-infected patients. How well do Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals perform on these measures?
To find out, investigators reviewed data on more than 20,000 HIV-infected individuals who received care at VA centers in 2008. The centers were located throughout the country (although half were in the South), and most provided care to at least 300 HIV-infected patients. Performance on 10 NQF measures was assessed.
