The proportion of HIV-positive people who are aged 50 and older is rapidly increasing, but little is known about sexual risk behavior in these individuals. To find out more, researchers surveyed 914 HIV-positive individuals in New York City who were aged 50 and older; 83% were black or Hispanic, and 63% were heterosexual. Most had been living with HIV for more than 10 years (67%) and were currently taking antiretrovirals (85%).
Half of the respondents reported sexual activity in the preceding 90 days (median number of anal or vaginal sex acts, 12). Of these, 49% reported sexual activity at least 2 times per week.
