Several studies have documented poor clinical outcomes among patients who have incomplete immune recovery on antiretroviral therapy (ART) despite sustained virologic control. Most studies, however, suffer from a small sample size or limited follow-up. In the present investigation, researchers evaluated the incidence of AIDS-defining events among 1318 patients who commenced ART at CD4 counts <200 cells/mm3 and, within 6 months, achieved virologic suppression to <50 copies/mL.
