An estimated 10% to 15% of treatment-naive HIV-infected patients carry viruses that are resistant to at least one antiretroviral drug. Transmitted resistance can influence virologic and immunologic response to treatment, but the effects have been difficult to quantify. To address this issue, researchers analyzed data from 10,056 treatment-naive patients in Europe who underwent baseline genotypic resistance testing before initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) between 1998 and 2008.
