An overview of Screening for Cervical Cancer: A Recommendation from the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative (2026)
In January 2026, the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative (WPSI), a multidisciplinary expert panel supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration, issued updated cervical cancer screening guidelines. These guidelines apply to women at average risk for cervical cancer; they do not apply to patients with HIV infection, immunosuppression, in utero diethylstilbestrol exposure, or a history of grade 2 or higher cervical dysplasia, which require individualized management.
