Guidelines recommend 5 to 7 days of systemic steroids for adults with asthma exacerbations. However, recent evidence suggests that patients with normal eosinophilic counts might be less responsive to steroids, which begs the question: Can eosinophil counts be used to tailor steroid treatment in patients with asthma exacerbations? To answer this questions, researchers in Singapore randomized 110 hospitalized adults with asthma exacerbations to usual care (5 days of prednisolone) or eosinophil-guided care.
