Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists have been linked to acute pancreatitis (). To further examine this connection, researchers used the U.S. Veterans Affairs database to compare 12-month rates of pancreatitis in 130,000 patients with diabetes who initiated GLP-1 agonists and 200,000 who initiated sulfonylureas. The analyses were adjusted for sociodemographic factors, comorbidities, and medications.
Rates of all-cause acute pancreatitis (cases warranting an emergency department visit or hospital admission) were similar between the two groups.
