A Risk Score to Predict C. auris Invasive Disease

Candidozyma auris, a multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen formerly known as Candida auris, tends to colonize patients in high-acuity, long-term-care settings, and mortality from invasive disease is as high as 45%. A clinical score to identify which colonized patients are most likely to develop invasive disease could improve management and prevention strategies.

In a previous retrospective study of patients in Spain colonized with C. auris, researchers identified multiple factors associated with invasive disease. Now, the researchers have validated those findings in a separate cohort from two Spanish ICUs and created a risk-stratification score.
