Despite significant shortcomings, vancomycin (VAN) continues to be recommended as a first-line therapy to treat patients with infective endocarditis caused by methicillin-resistant staphylococci (MRS). Daptomycin (DAP) is much more convenient, and evidence suggests it has better tolerability than VAN (). To evaluate DAP’s efficacy and safety further, particularly in left-sided endocarditis, researchers retrospectively studied 421 patients who received DAP and 196 who received VAN for left-sided MRS infective endocarditis.
DAP showed significantly fewer adverse drug reactions than VAN (14.5% vs. 26.0%).
