The prognosis and management of chronic liver disease are highly dependent on the extent and progression of liver fibrosis. Noninvasive tests (see ) are useful for staging fibrosis in chronic liver disease, diagnosing and risk-stratifying cirrhosis, and predicting complications of cirrhosis.
Blood-based testing includes the Fibrosis-4 Index (FIB-4) and the Enhanced Liver Fibrosis score (ELF).
