The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation recommends inducing hypothermia in selected comatose post-resuscitation patients, yet fewer than 15% of U.S. physicians recently surveyed reported using this intervention. Researchers performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials to determine whether induced mild hypothermia improves neurologic outcomes, decreases mortality, and causes adverse events.
The researchers screened 2131 articles and their references and contacted investigators studying hypothermia in cardiac arrest to identify potentially relevant studies.
