Hyperglycemia has been associated with poorer prognosis in many disease states, including myocardial infarction. Researchers retrospectively investigated the association between initial glucose levels in the emergency department and short-term (1 month) and long-term (1 year) cardiac prognosis in a cohort of 198 adult patients who presented with a first MI (defined according to American College of Cardiology criteria) and no history of coronary intervention.
