Limited data are available regarding how different resuscitation strategies affect response patterns of inflammatory biomarkers during the early phase of septic-shock development. Researchers reevaluated data from the Early Goal-Directed Therapy Collaborative Group study to determine the association between biomarker levels and type of resuscitation strategy used (early goal-directed therapy or usual care), severity of global tissue hypoxia, organ dysfunction, and mortality during the first 72 hours after emergency department presentation.
