The GlideScope videolaryngoscope provides an excellent view of the glottis, but the sharp anterior angulation of the GlideScope blade can make passing the endotracheal tube challenging. To address this issue, the manufacturer of the GlideScope developed a specialized, rigid intubation stylet shaped to match the curvature of the blade of the videolaryngoscope. In a randomized, controlled study (funded solely by the study institutions), researchers compared the effectiveness of the GlideScope-specific rigid stylet (GRS) and the standard malleable stylet in 80 patients requiring intubation for elective surgery.
