Oligoanalgesia for acute painful conditions remains a problem in emergency departments. To evaluate the effect of an analgesia intervention, researchers in Israel conducted a prospective, single-blind, before-and-after study in a convenience sample of adult patients who presented to the ED of a large academic hospital with renal colic or minor-to-moderate trauma and had normal mental status and hemodynamic stability. Types of trauma included sprains; fractures of long bones, excluding the femur; lacerations requiring suturing; and first- and second-degree burns.
