The percentage of patients with stroke who receive thrombolytic therapy is small, mostly because of delay in presentation, and is likely to remain so even with an increase in the treatment window to 4.5 hours. Most previous studies of interventions to get stroke patients to the hospital sooner have been uncontrolled or before-and-after studies. In this study, researchers cluster-randomized 48 zip code areas in Berlin to intervention and control groups with similar sociodemographic characteristics.
