Standards for prehospital system time intervals for care of patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have not been established. To assess the association between five prehospital time intervals and probability of achieving percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within 90 minutes (the national standard), researchers retrospectively studied patients with STEMI who were transported by a single emergency medical services (EMS) system in North Carolina to one of three PCI centers from 2007 to 2009. Of 165 patients who underwent PCI and had complete data, 110 (67%) underwent PCI within 90 minutes.
