Investigators surveyed 202 U.S. level I trauma centers to assess the characteristics of pediatric psychosocial services, including screening and interventions for alcohol abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Of the 150 centers (74%) that responded, 77% reported caring for pediatric patients, 66% reported having a pediatric service to care for pediatric trauma patients, and 65% reported having a pediatric surgical service led by a pediatric surgeon. The median upper age used by these centers to define pediatric patients was 15 years, and the median number of pediatric trauma patients admitted annually was 250.
