Researchers retrospectively compared simultaneous noninvasive blood pressure (BP) measurements and intra-arterial BP measurements (the gold standard) both before and during flight in 56 patients transported by Scotland's aeromedical critical care service over a 2-year period.
The limits of agreement between noninvasive and invasive BP measurements taken pre-flight ranged from –37 to 30 mm Hg for systolic BP and from –21 to 25 mm Hg for mean arterial pressure. The corresponding limits of agreement for measurements taken in flight ranged from –41 to 33 mm Hg and from –24 to 25 mm Hg, respectively.
