Among the several validated clinical decision rules that exist to help clinicians rule out pulmonary embolism (PE), the Wells criteria and the Geneva score are the most extensively studied. Recently, a revised Geneva score with eight objective clinical items, each assigned individual weighted scores, was validated (JW Emerg Med Mar 28 2006). Researchers hypothesized that a simpler version of the revised Geneva score, in which 1 point is assigned to each of the eight variables, would retain its diagnostic accuracy and clinical usefulness (Table 1).
