Findings from several recent retrospective studies and an observational cohort study have suggested that statin therapy decreases the risks for sepsis and for death from infectious diseases. Now, using the database of a tertiary-care medical center in southern Israel, investigators have conducted a prospective, observational, community-based cohort study to examine statins’ effect on infection-related mortality.
The investigators identified a cohort of 11,362 evaluable patients with atherosclerotic disease, hospitalized for any reason, and followed them for up to 3 years.
