Hematopoietic stem-cell transplant recipients are at high risk for invasive fungal infections (IFIs; JW Infect Dis Nov 21 2007). However, changes in antifungal prophylaxis and in transplant practices during the previous 2 decades have altered the epidemiology of IFIs in these patients. To investigate recent trends in such infections, investigators used data for July 2004 through September 2007 from the Prospective Antifungal Therapy Alliance, a prospective, multicenter, observational registry of IFIs in the U.S. and Canada.
