Echinocandins (caspofungin, anidulafungin, or micafungin) are now recommended for treating severe cases of candidemia, with fluconazole an alternative for more clinically stable patients.
Echinocandins are also recommended for treating Candida glabrata infections, unless azole susceptibility has been confirmed, and are the preferred empirical therapy for patients with recent azole exposure.
