Infectious disease (ID) specialists are often consulted during treatment of patients with infections. To study factors associated with adherence to the specialists' recommendations and to determine whether adherence affects clinical outcomes, researchers in France conducted a prospective study involving inpatients who were treated at a Grenoble hospital for >24 hours between December 2007 and June 2008 and for whom an ID consultation was requested.
