To prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients, most centers use prophylactic or preemptive antiviral treatment. Although infection with drug-resistant CMV has been described in transplant recipients, the prevalence of such infections has not been investigated in detail.
Now, researchers in France have published the results of a multicenter cohort study involving 59 HSCT and 287 SOT recipients enrolled between September 2006 and December 2008 with newly diagnosed CMV infection.
