A sizeable proportion of patients with early localized or early disseminated Lyme disease do not manifest the typical signs of central nervous system involvement — radiculopathy, radiculoneuritis, aseptic meningitis, or cranial neuropathies (most commonly, facial nerve palsy) — despite abnormal findings on cerebrospinal fluid examination.
