Yellow fever (YF) virus is a potential threat to large urban centers in Brazil, where competent mosquito vectors thrive and dengue fever (caused by a closely related flavivirus) has proliferated in recent decades. The 17DD YF vaccine is manufactured in Brazil; about 85 million doses were administered there between 1990 and 2000. Few studies have assessed this vaccine, and little is known about how previous dengue infection might affect immune response to YF preparations.
