New antituberculosis (anti-TB) drugs are needed to overcome two major problems: mycobacterial resistance and interactions with antiretroviral regimens. In a recent prospective, randomized study, investigators (including one who has acted as a consultant on TB drug development) compared the 14-day early bactericidal activity (EBA) of six oral anti-TB regimens in adults with untreated, drug-susceptible, uncomplicated pulmonary TB in South Africa.
