Randomized trials among patients with and without hypertension have shown reductions in blood pressure with decreased sodium intake. However, data are scarce regarding how changing sodium intake affects subsequent cardiovascular events. Now, using a questionnaire administered by mail or by phone, U.S. investigators from the Trials of Hypertension Prevention (TOHP) Collaborative Research Group have conducted a follow-up of participants in two randomized lifestyle intervention trials of dietary sodium reduction that included education and counseling.
