Brugada syndrome, an inherited disorder characterized by susceptibility to ventricular fibrillation, increases the risk for sudden cardiac death (SCD). Although risk stratification in asymptomatic adults with this disorder is controversial, spontaneous occurrence of the typical ECG pattern (ST-segment elevation in the right precordial leads) and presence of symptoms such as syncope are thought to be markers for SCD. Little is known about the syndrome in children because it is rarely diagnosed in this population. Now, using information collected from 13 hospitals in Europe, researchers present data on clinical presentation and prognosis of Brugada syndrome in 30 children aged 16 or younger.
