Background and Purpose: Although several studies have addressed the use of biomarkers — particularly B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) — in populations with heart failure, integrating these markers into clinical care has been controversial. The National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB) convened a committee to develop practice guidelines for the use of biomarkers for screening, diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment of HF.
