To assess the relative efficacy and safety of sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) and paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES), investigators conducted a meta-analysis of pooled data from 16 randomized head-to-head trials (8695 patients) comparing the stents.
The 30-month probability of reintervention was 9.5% in the SES group and 12.7% in the PES group (hazard ratio, 0.74; P<0.001). The 30-month probability of stent thrombosis was 1.2% in the SES group and 2.6% in the PES group (HR, 0.66; P=0.02); the event curves tended to diverge more widely after the first 12 months.
