Coronary heart disease and colorectal cancer share many risk factors, including tobacco use and the metabolic syndrome. In this cross-sectional study, investigators in Hong Kong assessed the prevalence of colorectal neoplasms in patients with newly diagnosed coronary artery disease and sought to identify common risk factors after adjusting for age and sex. Eligible patients were those who underwent angiography for suspected CAD from November 2004 to June 2006; an age- and sex-matched control group was recruited from the general population. Individuals taking aspirin or statins and those with a history of colonoscopy or colon disease in the previous 10 years were excluded. All participants underwent a screening colonoscopy.
