Interest is growing in strategies to reduce time to reperfusion for patients with ST-segment- elevation MI (STEMI). In 2006 researchers identified key strategies for improving the timeliness of treatment (Journal Watch Cardiology Nov 13 2006), and a national effort is underway to improve door-to-balloon times for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Several studies are in progress of ways to widen the focus beyond the hospital and to assess interventions to systematize care within regions.
