The PERISCOPE (Pioglitazone Effect on Regression of Intravascular Sonographic Coronary Obstruction Prospective Evaluation) trial was a prospective, multicenter, double-blind trial of the effectiveness of pioglitazone versus glimepiride on the progression of coronary atherosclerosis as assessed by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in patients with type 2 diabetes. It was funded by pioglitazone’s manufacturer.
