Facilitated percutaneous coronary intervention — a combination of thrombolysis, antiplatelet therapy, and mechanical reperfusion — is posited to offset myocardial damage resulting from delayed primary PCI in patients with acute ST-segment-elevation MI. Because evidence supporting this strategy is scarce, investigators conducted the Facilitated Intervention with Enhanced Reperfusion Speed to Stop Events (FINESSE) trial, an international, double-blind study supported by the manufacturers of abciximab.
