For more than 40 years, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) has been treated by surgical myomectomy; alcohol septal ablation (ASA) was introduced for this condition in 1995. In this study, investigators report long-term outcomes of 629 patients with HOCM (mean age, 54) who underwent ASA between 1996 and 2006. Patients’ mean LV outflow tract (LVOT) gradient at baseline was 77 mm Hg at rest (80% of patients) or 74 mm Hg after provocation (20%). A mean of 1.3 septal arteries were injected with a mean of 2.6 mL of ethanol per patient. Acute procedural success was achieved in 619 patients (98.4%).
