In previous studies, percutaneous coronary intervention has demonstrated a safety profile similar to that of coronary artery bypass grafting but has also demonstrated a greater need for repeat revascularization, particularly in patients with diabetes. In this report, investigators (1) provide the 3-year outcome results for diabetic patients in the Arterial Revascularization Therapies Study — Part II (ARTS-II), a nonrandomized study of sirolimus-eluting stenting; and (2) compare the findings with those of the randomized treatment arms of the ARTS-I study of bare-metal stenting (BMS) versus CABG.
