The long-term safety of drug-eluting stents (DES) has been much debated. Previous findings from the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry (SCAAR) suggested an increase in late mortality in patients who received DES during 2003 and 2004 (JW Cardiol Feb 12 2007). Extending the study to include all patients who received a single stent from 2003 through 2006 has enabled researchers to perform more-powerful analyses of discrete outcomes.
