In this randomized equivalence study, investigators compared paclitaxel-eluting stents (PES) with sirolimus-eluting stents (SES) in 607 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for unprotected left main coronary artery (LMCA) stenoses. Of the study population, 23% were women, nearly 30% had diabetes, 42% presented with acute coronary syndromes, about one third were high-risk surgical candidates, and two thirds had three-vessel disease. Distal LMCA lesions were present in 63% of patients, and about 50% underwent culotte bifurcation stenting. Intravascular ultrasound was not used.
