Recent concerns about late stent thrombosis and evidence of delayed in-stent restenosis have fueled the development of a new generation of drug-eluting stents. To compare the novel zotarolimus-eluting stent with the well-established sirolimus-eluting stent, investigators in Denmark conducted a single-blind, all-comer, manufacturer-funded trial in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for chronic stable coronary artery disease or acute coronary syndromes (ACS). A total of 2332 patients (mean age, 64; 73% men) with 3230 coronary lesions were randomly assigned to receive zotarolimus-eluting or sirolimus-eluting stents.
