You don't see many articles in the cardiovascular literature based on toenail clippings, but if you want to measure mercury exposure, the clippings are a good place to start. Some studies (Int J Environ Res Public Health 2009; 6:1984 and Neurotoxicol Teratol 2010; 32:240) have raised concerns about increased risk for cardiovascular disease with mercury exposure from fish consumption, but much uncertainty remains.
