Alcohol septal ablation is a relatively new therapy for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and long-term outcomes data are scarce. In this multicenter, Scandinavian study, investigators report both short- and long-term outcomes of 313 ablation procedures in 279 patients. All patients had a left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) gradient at rest or during Valsalva maneuver and severe, drug-refractory symptoms.
During the first year of follow-up, ablation reduced the median resting LVOT gradient from 58 mm Hg to 12 mm Hg and the median Valsalva LVOT gradient from 93 mm Hg to 21 mm Hg.
