Previous studies of the adjunctive use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa platelet inhibitors or catheter thombectomy during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (MI) have produced conflicting results. In this randomized, 2×2 factorial study, researchers compared bolus-only intracoronary abciximab (0.25 mg/kg), delivered into the thrombus region with an infusion catheter, and manual aspiration thrombectomy with the Export catheter in patients undergoing primary PCI with bivalirudin anticoagulation. The trial was funded by both catheter manufacturers.
